Project: Gas Plant Expansion Studies

Longford & Long Island Point, Victoria, Australia

A series of studies into various aspects of expansion alternatives for Esso Australia’s gas and liquids production facilities:

1997:

This gas plant expansion study for Esso Australia comprising enhanced ethane recovery and increased capacity of Longford Gas Plants 2 & 3. Preferred option identified was to retrofit licensor proprietary technology into existing cryogenic gas plants to boost ethane recovery. Study identified and costed modifications required at Long Island Point NGL processing facilities to process additional ethane recovered from Longford Ethane Expansion. Process simulation models developed and maintained to define limits of all current plants in the production train. Evaluation covered inlet separation, gas plant and NGL fractionation train, mol sieves, amine and TEG facilities, acid gas incineration, refrigeration, hot-oil, flare, and LPG and ethane pipelines. Technology initiatives resulted in capacity improvements sufficient to defer Gas Plant No. 4 while still meeting target ethane production capacity. Scope of Gas Plant 4 was developed to allow comparison of new and revamped plant optionsn

1999:

Scoping studies for new gas plants, including tie-ins to existing plants, to enhance gas supply security to Victoria.

2003:

Re-evaluate gas expansion studies to enhance Ethane recovery using new technology concepts. These studies demonstrated additional improved Ethane recovery and analysed Longford Gas Plants 2 & 3 as well as Long Island Point fractionation facilities to determine the step changes in bottlenecks and the cost of their removal.

2004:

FEED for new compression
