
At Uhde Shedden Australia we see ‘Alternate Energy Systems’ as providing a transition between conventionally refined transportation fuels and fossil-fuel based power generation to a truly sustainable future energy economy. The technologies employed contribute to reduced emissions, smaller carbon footprints, lower costs, or diversity / security of supply.
Our parent, Uhde, is a world leader in the development and commercial application of gasification technology, having designed and built some 100 plants, based on eight different technologies, over the past 65 years. Uhde has technologies for gas treatment and dehydrogenation which can significantly reduce power station emissions and are important enablers for carbon capture and sequestration which is the focus of intense current global interest and research.
Synthesis gas derived via coal gasification or reforming of natural gas may be used to produce clean-burning liquid fuels via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis or methanol routes that can be cost-competitive with fuels derived from crude oil. When combined with emerging carbon capture and storage solutions, they offer the potential for reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
We understand the technologies and economics of biofuels production including ethanol, biodiesel and co-gasification of biomass. We believe that where sufficient low cost feed is available and world-class technology is employed such fuels may usefully contribute to meeting policy objectives and be competitive in the marketplace. We note however that sustainable and ethical biofuel production requires significant improvements in technology, sustainable agricultural practices, and responsible land-use allocation and management.
We have extensive experience in concept and feasibility studies, technology selection and evaluation, techno-economic modelling, engineering, procurement, construction management, pre-commissioning, commissioning and plant support and offer a complete range of services:
Gas to Liquids (GTL) and Coal to Liquids (CTL) - We can provide an entire solution from gasification, gas cleaning and treatment, synthesis and product workup. We have a portfolio of proven gasification technologies and access to proprietary technologies via Fischer-Tropsch, Methanol to Gasoline and other process routes.
Carbon Capture & Storage - We have experience in the removal, compression and pipeline transport of CO2 or geosequestration, and specialist skills in techniques such as photogrammetry and modularisation.
Bioethanol - We can deliver concept development, cost estimation and project delivery services for ethanol production from a number of feedstocks including wheat, maize, cassava and sorghum. We work with a range of technology suppliers, including Delta T, Katzen, Vogelbusch and Praj.
Biodiesel - We can offer design, procurement and construction services for methyl ester (biodiesel) and fatty alcohol plants. Our parent company, Uhde GmbH, in association with AT Agrar-Technik, has considerable experience in supplying modular biodiesel plants across Europe.
Solar Energy - We can provide engineering services to assist in the development of solar projects including plant arrangements that utilise ‘chemical’ storage systems to enable consistent power distribution.
