Shenhua Ningxia Coal Group (SNCG) has recently appointed Shedden Uhde to assist in the front-end engineering design for the $US 1.5-billion coal-to-chemical production complex in the Ningxia Hui region, North West China.
The SNCG facility, which is designed to produce 540 kilo-tonnes per annum of polypropylene, will include a coal gasification plant, followed by gas to methanol, methanol-to-propylene and polypropylene units. The project is scheduled to be completed in early 2009.
The initial phase involves review of the coal gasification process design package. Following this Shedden Uhde will perform the Basic Engineering Design (BED) for the gasification unit in conjunction with China Huanqiu Contracting and Engineering Corp. (HQCEC). The BED is expected to commence in Melbourne in October 2007 and will continue through to about the middle of the 2008, with subsequent support to the detailed engineering contractor in Beijing, China.
