Shedden Uhde Australia has been awarded the first phase of a project to build a green field ethanol plant in Kwinana, Western Australia for Primary Energy.
The plant should have the capacity to produce up to 500,000 litres of ethanol per day and will combine ethanol and anaerobic digester technology, a first for the Australian market. The use of anaerobic digester allows flexibility to produce different co-products such as electricity and fertiliser.
The plant will generate its own power and will export surplus power back into the grid.
Primary Energy has in place contracts to supply ethanol to BP throughout Australia and the project is intended to be the first of three similar plants to be constructed in Western Australia, Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
Shedden Uhde will initially be responsible for front end design, the key deliverable of which will be a bankable estimate for the project.
It is anticipated that Shedden will continue supporting Primary Energy through the project delivery phase following successful completion of the FEED package.
